After a baseball victory, Maddux El-Hakam (pictured) celebrates with his biggest fan and good-luck charm, baby brother Jimmie. Maddux was one of only four seventh graders selected to the Lanier Middle School 2020 baseball team. Before the season was canceled, he started two of the three games and hit a homerun in their 17-7 win over Pershing Middle School. While Maddux waits to return to Lanier baseball, he recently started playing baseball with the Houston Angels, a 13U tournament team coached by James Madrid. During an elimination game at a recent tournament, Maddux hit a walk-off grand slam home run that let the team to the championship game, which they ultimately won.

“I’m thankful for the guidance of my whole family, on and off the field, but especially my dad. He instilled a love for baseball (especially the Astros!) in me, and he has taken me to so many games throughout my life. I plan to play in college and hope to play in the MLB one day. I know if that happens, it’s because of the support of my parents and grandparents.”
